Day 1
Arrival
Fly into Phoenix, AZ airport, stop for Inn and Out Burger and make the 2 hour drive to Flagstaff. We stayed at this lovely VRBO called “Backyard Bliss” right off Route 66 that we could not recommend enough. The hosts were very helpful, promptly available for questions and offered several fabulous recommendations.
Day 2
Hike at Snowbowl
We checked out the scenic Aspen Loop Trail located inside Coconino National Forest. This was a short 2.5 miles hike through sloping meadows and aspen trees with views of the San Francisco Peaks. In the fall, the leaves turn to a beautiful picturesque scene out of National Geographic. Get used to the altitude changes before the rest venturing off on the rest of your trip by drinking lots of water.
Day 3
Slot Canyons and Horseshoe Bend
Flagstaff to Page Arizona is a 2 hour drive that passes through The Navajo Nation. Since we didn’t want to do all the driving, we booked a day trip with Grand Canyon Journeys and we couldn’t have been more thrilled with their services. Nina had a wealth of knowledge to share about the area and it’s history.
First stop was the popular Cameron Trading Post. Filled with navajo crafts, jewelry and souvenirs.
Next was off to Horseshoe Bend and Slot Canyon Tours. There are many options for Antelope Canyon tours and they can get very crowded. This tour company was intimate and showed us the Secret Canyon as well as their own lookout for Horseshoe Bend. Highly recommend this tour company if you are looking to avoid crowds.
Check out Glen Canyon Dam
Day 4
Sedona Day Trip
Above and Beyond Grand Canyon Tours took us on their 4 hour private Sedona Tour. Cory drove us to Thunder Mountain, Chimney Rock, Airport Mesa, Chapel of the Holy Cross, and a more secluded area of Slide Rock.
Day 5
The Grand Canyon
Above and Beyond Grand Canyon Tours took us to The Grand Canyon from Under the Canvas. Molly, our guide for the day, took us to several lookout points, provided lunch and provided history.
Day 6
Bearizona/rest day
To break up the 2 hour drive from The Grand Canyon back to Flagstaff we opted to stop at Bearizona, a drive through wildlife park.
Day 7
Walk around downtown Flagstaff and Sunset Gondola Ride at Snowbowl
By this time we were all pretty tired from our adventures. We had a low key day checking out the shops in downtown Flagstaff. To end the evening we took the Gondola ride to the top of Snowbowl and watched the sunset.
Day 8
Head Home
Pack up and drive to the airport.
